Amenorrhea

amenorrhea Amenorrhea is called amenorrhea in traditional Chinese medicine. It is mostly caused by congenital deficiency, frailty and sickness, or labor in the delivery room, insufficient kidney qi, and less blood loss in essence; Excessive tension, or stimulation, stagnation of qi and blood; obese people, excessive phlegm and dampness, phlegm-damp stagnation, etc. Any woman who is over 18 years old and her menstruation is still imminent, or her menstrual cycle has been formed but has been interrupted for more than three consecutive months, is called “amenorrhea”. Western medicine can be divided into hypothalamic amenorrhea, pituitary amenorrhea, ovarian amenorrhea, uterine amenorrhea, and lower genital tract dysplasia amenorrhea according to reproductive axis lesions and dysfunctional parts. Chinese medicine divides amenorrhea into four types:

① Amenorrhea due to kidney deficiency and essence deficiency. Late menarche, less menstrual flow, pale red color, gradually amenorrhea, dizziness, tinnitus, soreness of waist and knees, dry mouth, hot hands and feet, or hot flashes and sweating, pale red tongue with little coating, stringy or thready pulse . The treatment is suitable for invigorating the kidney and nourishing the essence, and the prescriptions are Guishen Pills, Zuogui Pills, etc.

② Amenorrhea due to deficiency of Qi and blood. Late menstruation, less menstrual flow, pale color, gradually amenorrhea, dizziness and fatigue, dull complexion, forgetfulness and insomnia, shortness of breath and lazy speech, lack of luster in hair and skin, pale tongue, weak and weak pulse. Treatment should benefit Qi and blood, such as Ginseng Yangying Decoction and Guipi Decoction.

③ Qi stagnation and blood stasis type amenorrhea. Irregular menstrual periods, gradual or sudden amenorrhea, distending pain in the chest, flanks, breasts, and lower abdomen, upset and irritable, dark tongue with petechiae, stringy and astringent pulse, the treatment should be to regulate qi, activate blood and remove blood stasis. The prescription is Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction, Xiaoyao Pills etc.

④ Phlegm-damp stagnation type amenorrhea. Late menstruation, gradually to amenorrhea, body obesity, nausea, fatigue, lack of appetite, nausea, leucorrhea, white and greasy coating, stringy and slippery pulse. For the treatment of phlegm and dampness, Cang Zhu Dao Tan Decoction, Xiangsha Liujun Decoction, etc. are used.

If you don’t want to take traditional Chinese medicine, you can use acupuncture to treat amenorrhea. For primary amenorrhea, choose Guanyuan, Pishu, Shenshu, Zusanli and other acupoints, and for secondary amenorrhea, you can choose Zhongji, Sanyinjiao and other acupoints for acupuncture treatment.
